AltLayer Receives 1M EIGEN Token Grant from Eigen Foundation
And It Will All Go to the AltLayer Community!
We’re thrilled to announce that AltLayer has been awarded a retroactive grant of 1 million EIGEN tokens from the Eigen Foundation. This generous reward recognizes our past and ongoing contributions to the EigenLayer ecosystem.
What This Grant Means
AltLayer has been deeply involved with the EigenLayer ecosystem since its inception, even before the core EigenLayer contracts were publicly released. Over time, our role within the ecosystem has grown significantly, evolving as an AVS builder, AVS operator, technology contributor, marketing partner, distribution partner for EigenDA, and more.
More concretely, AltLayer has contributed to the EigenLayer ecosystem in the following ways:
- As an AVS builder: AltLayer introduced the notion of restaked rollups using three vertically integrated AVSs called MACH, VITAL and SQUAD that benefit rollups with better decentralization, security, liveness and interoperability. As a part of its MACH offering, AltLayer has directly launched 5 AVSs so far. These AVSs have recorded an aggregate of $25B in restaked assets, and counting..!
- As an ecosystem growth partner: AltLayer has helped foster ecosystem growth through cross-community incentivization. To kick off the culture of playing infinite games, AltLayer has in the past airdropped over 50M ALT tokens to both restakers and builders in the EigenLayer ecosystem.
- As an AVS operator: AltLayer-run operator is the second largest operator in terms of number of delegators, serving 18 AVSs.
- As a tech contributor for AVS tooling: AltLayer has contributed to various AVS toolings. The most prominent one is a no-code AVS deployment tool called Wizard. Wizard was most recently used to build and launch the GoPlus AVS.
- As a distribution partner for EigenDA: On the non-AVS side, AltLayer through its RaaS service has brought several rollup projects such as Xterio, Cyber, BirdLayer, LogX, among many others to use EigenDA.
- As a marketing partner: AltLayer has co-hosted our flagship Rollup Day event and other hackathons with EigenLayer. Drawing a massive and diverse crowd of devs, industry visionaries, C-suite, and ecosystem participants, these global events (held in hotspots like Brussels, Paris, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Singapore, Bangkok) have been a great forum for shedding light on concepts like restaking, AVSs, popular and upcoming rollup infra and its use cases, the Layer 2 ecosystem, and more! These initiatives have not only accelerated the adoption of EigenLayer but also set a new standard for community contribution.
The retroactive grant underscores Eigen Foundation’s commitment to rewarding projects that contribute to the EigenLayer ecosystem, and is a testament to our alignment with EigenLayer and its vision. It also highlights a forward-thinking approach to incentivizing ecosystem contributors and encourages contributors like AltLayer to take bold steps and invest in long-term ecosystem-building, knowing their efforts will be valued.
AltLayer’s Plans with the Token Grant
AltLayer’s contributions to EigenLayer and its ecosystem have always been fueled by the incredible support of our community. Every milestone we’ve achieved, every innovation we’ve delivered, has been possible because of your unwavering trust and belief in our mission.
With this in mind, it was only natural that the entirety of the 1M EIGEN token grant be directed to our community — the very backbone of our ecosystem.
The decision to allocate the 1M EIGEN grant to our community reflects our unwavering gratitude and commitment to those who have supported us from the beginning.
While the Eigen Foundation left the allocation of this grant to our discretion, we saw this as a unique opportunity to give back directly to the backbone of our ecosystem, our community. This approach aligns with our shared core values and reinforces our common belief in fostering long-term growth and collaboration.
Out of the 1 million EIGEN tokens, the first tranche of 500,000 will be distributed to holders of reALT tokens. To qualify, users must either have held reALT tokens in their wallet or deposited reALT on EigenLayer. More details on the snapshot below.
The remaining 500,000 EIGEN tokens will be distributed sometime next year when EigenLayer’s reward mechanism (v2) goes live on the mainnet.
Snapshot & Claim Details
The snapshot for reALT tokens was taken on a weekly basis over the following time period: May 9, 2024 (midnight) GMT to December 12, 2024 (midnight) GMT. You must have held reALT tokens in this period to qualify for the airdrop.

Looking Ahead
With this grant, AltLayer is even more determined to push the boundaries of what’s possible with restaking. More concretely, we plan to:
- Migrate ALT staking, currently operating outside of EigenLayer restaking contracts to AltLayer AVS.
- Expand our infrastructure to enable more developers to leverage EigenLayer’s potential.
- Introduce advanced tools for better user and developer experience with restaking.
- Foster collaborations with other ecosystem projects to build a stronger and more nurturing restaking landscape.
